Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic bottles are packaging containers made from PET, primarily utilized in the packaging sectors for beverages, food, and chemical products. PET bottles are characterized by their lightweight nature, transparency, excellent airtightness, superior mechanical strength, and low energy consumption during production. Widely used for packaging liquid beverages-such as mineral water, carbonated drinks, fruit juices, and tea-PET bottles account for approximately 70% of the global market share for liquid beverage packaging. PET was originally used primarily for the synthesis of fibers (polyester); however, its application shifted to the manufacturing of plastic containers in 1976, and the world's first recyclable PET plastic bottle appeared in 1978.

The recycling of PET plastic bottles contributes significantly to resource conservation and environmental protection. Recycled PET materials can be regenerated through physical or chemical processes and subsequently utilized to manufacture a variety of other products, including stationery, furniture, and clothing.
